Property Owners Association Valsta Utveckling in Sigtuna Municipality
CHALLENGE
Valsta is a socioeconomically vulnerable neighbourhood in Sigtuna, Stockholm. Our client, Valsta Utveckling, is a non-profit association comprising property owners, housing cooperatives, local tenant associations and business owners in Valsta. Valsta Utveckling is partnering with the “Snyggt och Tryggt” initiative to arrange many local events for the residents of Valsta, an area that is often negatively portrayed in the media.
SOLUTION
Our analysis shows that many people feel a sense of pride in living in the area and value the sense of community. However, there is also a perceived lack of safety, in part due to the influence of the media. We will nuance the image of Valsta, increase the feeling of pride and make the residents ambassadors for their neighbourhood. “Vi är Valsta” is the name of the district’s place-marketing platform. The name itself is inclusive and encourages everyone to help shape a “new” Valsta. The name will create a sense of unity, a clearer identity and increased sense of pride.
Result
We have conducted a current situation analysis through a neighbourhood survey. Our strategy has resulted in a recommendation to establish a new main communicator and communication platform for the district. Place marketing of Valsta was initiated in 2020.
